In 2005 Richie Kohler and John Chatterton led the History Channel expedition to the greatest shipwreck in the world...TITANIC.
Last year, the "Shadow Divers" participated in another major expedition. Using Russian MIR submersibles they documented evidence that has raised questions about the great ships loss and ultimately leads them to explore Titanic's tragic sister ship, the HMHS Britannic.
During World War I the Britannic was operating as a hospital ship when she struck a German mine and sank in one hour, with the loss of thirty lives. Resting in 400 feet of clear Aegean water and at nearly a thousand feet long, Britannic is largest intact passenger liner in the world that is accessible to divers. The dive team consists of an international group of experienced deep shipwreck explorers, rebreather divers, and imaging experts from Woods Hole Oceanographic institute.
Using cutting edge hi-definition cameras, this expedition penetrates deep inside the ship in order figure out why Britannic, built even stronger than Titanic with a double hull and additional water tight bulk-heads, sank twice as fast as her more famous sister. Interested in knowing more? The entire expedition was filmed and will be broadcast on the History Channel.
"Titanic's Tragic Sister", premier's October 14th at 9:00 PM on the History Channel.
