In recognition of Benchley's shark activism the Shark Research Institute has created The Peter Benchley Shark Conservation Award. The inaugural event will take place at the Explorer's Club in New York on May 8, 2007. Anyone can be nominated for the $1,000 grant award assuming you're involved in the conservation of sharks and submit an application by February 2, 2007.
