i had a discussion about the accident insurance issue lately with a friend. kinda about, what happens when you help another diver in an emergency situation and get in the process injured yourself. thats strictly on the recreational level, diver to diver.
he told me that you are in germany automatically insured in this case based on a court decision some years ago. so this is basically only interesting to divers in germany as far as i know. i did a little research and came up with the following court decision, if you ever need it (hopefully not).

Sozialgericht Hamburg, Urteil vom 29.07.1997, Az: 24 U 349/95
Wer seinem Tauchpartner bei einem unter Wasser eintretenden Notfall hilft und dann bei einem dadurch bedingten Notaufstieg selbst eine Taucherkrankheit vom Typ Caisson II11 erleidet, ist gem. § 548 Abs. 1 RVO (alt) gesetzlich unfallversichert. Es liegt ein Arbeitsunfall im Sinne dieser Vorschrift vor.
