Hello. I am just getting into SCUBA. Just started my classes and I am already in love. I have been borrowing equipment from the instructors for now and its time I bought my own fins, mask, and snorkel.... well, honestly, I have only been in the pool (but nonetheless, I love it). I am in a PADI course and I get a discount on ScubaPro stuff. I am not totally sold on ScubaPro, I am looking for a good set to keep me moving and happy underwater. Any suggestions, experiences, and the like?

I did see the ScubaPro Twin Jet and haven't really found any reviews on it. Anyone have some experience with them. If I can and they're good, I would love to get the $100 off the mask, fin, and snorkel from them. And if its junk, I don't want to waste my time.

Anywho, great site and I look forward to any insight. Smile

hi and welcome first of all! nice that you enjoy diving - its a great sport.

as about your equipment questions. i can understand your comment that youre not entirely sold on scubapro equipment. dont get me wrong, it is mostly good gear - its just a personal thing. if the store, where you take the course, has other equipment lines as well i would strongly recommend to have them give you some other stuff also during the classes for trials. sure it is great if you can get a discount, after all a set of gear isnt that cheap and you usually get better deals on complete packages.

as for the twinjet fins, they are actually very nice, i used them several times and was happy with the performance. personally i use a variety of forcefins but you really dont need that and the price difference is pretty serious. so for that a good choice. as for masks. scubapro has some nice masks, but the main issue is that the mask fits you well, means you have no water leaking in. there is no def. this or that mask - every face is different and what works for one person can be an absolut desaster for somebody else. i have good experiences with no name $19 masks up to far beyond $150. i personally like mares masks, they have "dual silicone" type masks that are extremely soft around the actual seals and therefore very comfy and fit exeptionally well. if you found a scubapro mask that fits you well, once again nothing wrong with it. the snorkel is a story for itself. if you do / intend to snorkel a lot as well i would invest in a better model, or you might live in an area where a lot of shorediving is happening with longer surface swims. i have two diff snorkels - a nicer one for snorkeling and a foldable / collapsible for the usual scuba day stored in one of my bcd pockets. during the course you will have to have it on your mask, for the future i cant see that happen for most ppl. - as i said before depending on local diving circumstances.

as for bcds, i dont like scubapro much. i just dont think they are very comfy. there is nothing wrong with quality. so comes down to personal choices again. i prefer aqualung and mares in terms of comfort. myself i use zeagle and a variety of backplates and wings from different companies.

as for regulators, scubapro has nice stuff - dont buy the cheapest, you get what you pay for and with regular service it will lst you many years. some of my regs are over 15yrs old and still in regular use. again, personally i use a variety of apeks, poseidon, mares as well as scubapro regs.

hope that helps a little.
